- Description
- The Head Butler, assisted by the under Butler, is employed to ensure that the Principals’ needs are met on a daily basis and that the households are correctly maintained and all staff informed.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- To manage and direct the Under Butler.
- Travel to other properties both in the UK and abroad. To be smart and presentable at all times during transit.
- Valeting, unpacking and packing for the Principal and gentleman guests.
- Preparing the Principals luggage and personal items for travel/transport.
- To follow the correct household procedure for dealing with/handling fine art and antiquities.
- Maintaining household inventories for all properties.
- To work closely with the Caretaker(s) to gain a good understanding of how the house(s) operate. For example; alarm, smoke detectors, sensors, lighting, boiler room, air conditioning of Cellar, Flower Room, wardrobe area, etc.
- Engaging the services of freelance staff as and when required.
- Cellar Management and wine service.
- To have a good understanding of Health and Safety in the household.
- It is advantageous to understand the maintenance of shotguns and the upkeep of leather goods, to include gun slips, cartridge bags, cartridge boxes etc.
- Assist with the opening up procedure of the household.
- Laying up breakfast, lunch and dinner tables and trays, to include service.
- Together with the Under Butler, assisting the Senior Housekeeper and Housemaids
- Cleaning, vacuuming and laying the fires together with replenishing log baskets.
- In the absence of the Under Butler, organisation of the Principal’s wardrobe.
- Ensure silver, crystal and china is systematically cleaned, maintained and stored in the correct manner.
- Stock control.
- At busy times, to assist in the kitchen with prep work and washing up.
- To assist with extended family functions as and when required.
- To assist on let shoot days as and when required.
- Running errands and shopping as required by the Principals.
- Driving as and when required.
- Answering and screening telephone calls.
- The Head Butler role that this position will be “on call” as and when required.
The position is live-in, accommodation will also be provided while travelling, salary negotiable depending on experience, £40,000 to £50,000 gross per annum.
Unless otherwise specified a minimum of 2 years relevant experience is required to receive the advertised rate of pay
